D.Ed. Special Education is a specialist program that aims to develop professionals to work with children having special needs along with children without special needs. during the program, the trainee teachers are facilitated and coached to gain knowledge, attain skills, and develop behaviors/attitudes that comes handy in educating the children with diverse needs. There are specializations, like-Mental Retardation/ Intellectual Disability, Hearing Impairment, Visual Impairment, Autism Spectrum Disorders, etc.
The main objective of the program is to prepare special teachers at pre-primary (Nursery, kindergarten etc.) and primary (l to lV – lower primary and V to VII – upper primary) levels, who are competent to teach the children with special needs with other children .
The objectives of the program can be classified as follows-
Knowledge Acquisition:
- Knowledge about various aspects of disability, its impact and management.
- Educational needs of the children with disability and their management.
- Various areas of child development and the relevant mental processes.
Development of skills regarding:
Personal, professional and social competencies and skills required in teachers.
Classroom management techniques.
Develop proper attitudes towards:
Teaching profession and role of teachers in changing society.
Guiding children and solving their academic/ behavior problems.

Introduction to Disabilities, Human growth development & life span approach, Educational assessment, Teaching strategies and Material Development, Therapeutics Persons with mental retardation and associated disabilities, Inclusive Education for Children with Disabilities Programme for associated disabilities (Autistic & CP, etc.)
